About the firm

A Canadian architectural practice, accountable to the public realm.

Incorporated in Alberta in 2009, Prairie Architectural Solutions Inc. provides architecture, planning and building-science services to government, post-secondary, healthcare and Indigenous clients across Canada.

Our history

Founded in Calgary, 2009.

The firm was established in Calgary in 2009 by a group of Prairie-trained architects and building scientists who shared a conviction that public architecture in Canada deserved a practice committed equally to design quality and to disciplined delivery.

Over the years since, we have grown into a mid-sized practice with active engagements in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and the Territories. We work principally under stipulated-price and construction-management arrangements, and we maintain pre-qualified status on several federal and provincial standing offers.

Our offices are at 421 7th Avenue SW in downtown Calgary. The firm is wholly Canadian-owned and is registered to practise in each province in which we hold active commissions.

Mission

To deliver enduring public architecture through evidence-based design, technical rigour and transparent stewardship of client resources.

Governance

The firm is governed by a Board of Directors and an Operations Committee chaired by the Vice President, Operations. All commissions are subject to internal peer review prior to issue.

Standards

We design and document to the National Building Code of Canada, provincial codes and CSA standards, and we maintain a quality-management framework aligned to ISO 9001 principles.

Leadership

Senior practitioners accountable to every commission.

Mark leads day-to-day operations, contracts and quality assurance across the firm. He is responsible for project governance, client liaison and compliance with the Architects Act of Alberta.

Reconciliation & community

Indigenous engagement

We acknowledge that our head office is located on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, including the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut'ina Nation and the Stoney Nakoda Nations, and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.

Our practice undertakes architectural and planning work in partnership with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. We are committed to the principles of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and to UNDRIP, and we apply Indigenous design protocols, including community engagement, cultural integration and capacity transfer, on every relevant commission.
